First steps guide

Hello! I’m aware that Mycelium’s progression might be a little… unclear, so I’ve decided to write this short guide with hope that it’ll help a little bit. It is a little bit “spoiler-ey” so if you want to explore on your own, I would suggest to just drop in, that’s how must pre-public test players played the game and they enjoyed it that way.

Firstly, registration. During the “dev test” state, you just put username and password, if it’s not already taken, a new account will be created and you will join the game, ready to make your character.

After you press “send” and then confirm you are ready on the little introduction text, you will be teleported to the main world.

Many of you probably noticed that you can only hold two items when you start the game! But that’s not that much of a problem, just craft a hand basket. Gather two sticks from a tree…

image.png

And combine them together (right-click on one stick, then left-click on the second stick). Then select “Hand Basket” from the list of possible crafts.

Items that require more than one item to be crafted will first appear as “Unfinished…” with their description telling you which items have to be added to finish crafting. In this case, I already picked another stick, so I can right-click->continue on my in-progress basket.

image.png

Finished basked can then be opened and will automatically store items you pick up. You can hold two hand baskets, you have two hands after all, but you can’t store them inside each other if they are filled. If you want to expand your inventory further, you can go for “Stickpack” that can be worn on the back, but that requires cordage.

After some exploration I found swamps with a lot of reeds. Those plants are perfect for twisting into a twine as they don’t require any additional processing like soaking.

image.png

Some items, like reeds in this case, have a special “self-craft” option. Rocks can be knapped, yarn can be weaved… You will find more crafting possibilities as you explore the world.

And in the end, I went into the mountains and grabbed some smaller rocks from the ground, used one to chip a boulder, and knapped one of stones into a sharp tool that I can use to turn sticks into nice wooden handles for more complex tools.

This pretty much does it for the first steps I think? With this knowledge you’ll be able to do pretty much everything. Find clay, build a kiln out of dirt, fire your first pottery, soak nettles in a large pot to turn them into fabric with the help of spindle and loom.

World’s your oyster. And join our Discord if you need help.
